     Traveling with Animals

Can't spend a single day without your pets? Bring them along! To bring an animal into Abkhazia you must obtain a certificate of health at your local veterinary clinic. The document is issued based on the animal's veterinary passport, which should have a record of all necessary vaccines. At least a month before traveling, your pet must get a rabies vaccine: the vaccination certificate will only go into effect 21 days after the shot. Based on the veterinary passport and after examining the animal, a State Veterinary Service doctor will issue a veterinary certificate (Form #1). The certificate is issued three days before the trip and is valid for those three days.

Please note that to bring an animal onto an airplane or train you must buy a baggage ticket. In addition, all airlines have their own rules for transporting animals, so it is better to check these ahead of time.
