Mobile Phones There are two mobile operators in Abkhazia, AQUAFON and A-MOBILE. They operate using the GSM 900/1800 standard. The cellular coverage extends throughout Abkhazia and reception in all resort cities is reliable. MTS, BEELINE and MEGAFON have automatic roaming services set up. By signing up with any operator you can also get access to the Internet. Cellular operators have offices in all Abkhaz cities. You can pay for mobile services at payment centers, by buying special cards that are sold all over the place, or at special terminals (including the terminals of Russian operators), which are available in all resort cities. Internet There are Internet cafes in all major resort cities (Sukhum, Gagra, Gudauta). The quality of the Internet connections may vary, but full access to the Internet and to various social networks is provided. The average rate for using the Internet is 35-50 rubles an hour. In addition, customers can record data onto a CD, print out files, or simply use computers. Post offices You can send letters, telegrams and packages to all Russian and foreign cities from any post office in Abkhazia. Delivery times are the same as throughout Russia - 6 to 7 days. Letters to be called for in Abkhazia should be sent to the following address: Sochi, P.O. Box 1495, Abkhazsvyaz. Delivery service is only available in Sukhum, but you can receive letters at post offices by presenting you passport. At the post offices you can also make long-distance and international telephone calls. At the central public telephone office in Sukhum you can set up a phone call with any city or country. The cost of a call is 10-16 rubles per minute, depending on the destination. There are public telephone offices at popular tourist sites in all other cities. However, since the local cellular network is well developed, it is easier and cheaper to use a mobile phone, especially since local operators offer a range of tariff options, including international plans.
