Valley of Seven LakesThis fairly simple walking route runs from Pyv (Anchkhou, Chkhy) pass and runs to Audkhara. The goal of the trek is to ascend to the alpine meadows, enjoy the beauty of the seven high-altitude lakes and walk down to the Audkhara Resort.
You can get to the Pyv pass on an off-road vehicle. About 500 meters before the Audkhara Resort the road turns right and leads to the pass. In about 10 kilometers you arrive at the pass to find an amazingly beautiful panorama. Straight in front of you is the Pskhu valley; to the right - the peaks of the Greater Caucasus Range. From the pass the trail leads left (north) and almost the entire route runs towards the Greater Caucasus Range through alpine meadows. The trail will bring you to a small rocky hill and then turn off to the northeast. There you will see a fork in the road: one path will go left to bypass the mountain; the other path will rise right up - and up is where you need to go. After making it about 200 meters up, you will find yourself on the side of the ridge, and a beautiful panorama of the Lashpsy River gorge and the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range will open up. The route will then follow the ridge. As you keep walking, down on your left you will see three lakes. The largest of these has been dubbed Astoldzy (Lake With Table) by the shepherds, because it has an island in the shape of almost a perfect circle. The descent to the three lakes will take approximately an hour and a half, and once you make it down you can take a break and get some rest. The lakes are glacial, with exceptionally pure and clear water, and the water level does not change throughout the year. From the first three lakes we will keep moving northeast, staying at the same altitude. The path will continue across the ridge and bring us to the next two lakes after about 20 minutes. These lakes are smaller. If we continue following the trail, we will arrive at the final three lakes, including the largest lake of the Valley of Seven Lakes. If we have just one day for the trip, we need to start heading back to Audkhara along the same trail. If the group has an extra day, we can keep moving forward. If so, we should pick a place to set up camp. The location must be chosen very carefully. If you see signs of a rock slide - stay away, because rocks may keep falling. Lashpsy River flows below. Find a trail and follow it down; cross to the right side of the river and continue walking along its shore down the bottom of the gorge to Audkhara (about 4 hours). As you walk you will have to wade across the river twice more before entering the meadow where a road begins that will take you to the Audkhara Resort. |
